We are pleased to offer this set of video presentations by teachers in the BC Universal Design for Learning Project. In each video clip, the teacher, who created the lesson, provides an overview and shares insights on how UDL-based instruction impacts the teaching and learning experience in the classroom for both teachers and students.
Dr. Beth Sparks is a Learning and Enrichment Teacher (grades K-7, Delta). Over the past decade, Beth has worked to remove obstacles to learning for diverse students. The materials, as well as her teaching approach, support varied pathways towards common learning goals. Beth describes how she uses digital text, music, video clips, and google earth multimedia experiences to reach all students in her lessons about photographer George Ancona. In the final part (of this series of three clips), Beth discusses what is Universal Design for Learning and why it is important. View the series of George Ancona lessons in the BCUDL-LOR at www.setbc.org/bcudl.
Sandra Jost describes how she uses story writing with digital pictures to engage students and enhance understanding of social responsibility issues (grades 5-8, Victoria). View the Conversations: Graphic Story Writing lesson in the BCUDL-LOR at www.setbc.org/bcudl.
Six teachers at Spectrum Secondary School describe how they use engaging teacher-made digital resources, technology, and learning resources on the internet to reach all learners in their English classes (grades 9-12, Victoria).
